Configuration page
  1. Press the MENU key until INFORMATION MENU appears on the display.
  2. Press the ITEM key until PRINT CONFIGURATION appears.
  3. Press the SELECT key.
Cold reset
NOTE: A cold reset resets the HP Jetdirect card. Remove the HP Jetdirect card before performing a cold reset.
  1. Turn printer off.
  2. Hold the GO key down.
  3. Turn printer on.
  4. Continue to hold the GO key down until the printer reads COLD RESET.
    NOTE: If the words Cold Reset do not appear in the display, hold the GO button down until the motors audibly rotate. The words, Restoring Factory Settings , will appear in the display if the cold reset was performed successfully.
  5. Release GO.
    • INITIALIZING appears.
    • Then, RESTORING FACTORY SETTINGS.
    • Followed by OFFLINE.
  6. Press the GO key to put back online.
Engine test
The button is located in the hole below the fan exhaust on the left side of the printer.
Event log
  1. Press the MENU key until the display reads INFORMATION MENU.
  2. Press the ITEM until PRINT EVENT LOG appears.
  3. Press the SELECT key.

HP LaserJet 4100 printer series
Cold Reset
CAUTION: Performing a Cold Reset resets the HP Jetdirect configuration. To avoid making changes to your printer network configuration, remove the HP Jetdirect card before performing a cold reset. If possible, print a Configuration page prior to performing a Cold Reset. This will provide a printout of the current settings for later reference.
NOTE: Cold Reset clears all data from the printer memory and the HP Jetdirect card (if installed) and sets all the defaults back to the factory settings.
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. While pressing GO, turn the printer on. Release GO when Cold Reset appears briefly on the display, then Initializing appears. After a few seconds, Restoring Factory Settings appears on the display, followed by Offline . The cold reset is complete.
  3. Press GO to return the printer online. Ready appears on the display.
    NOTE: If the words Cold Reset do not appear in the display, hold the GO button down until you hear the motors rotate. The words Restoring Factory Settings will appear in the display if the Cold Reset was performed successfully.
HP LaserJet 4100 MFP and 4101 MFP family general information
Cold Reset
A cold reset clears all data from the printer memory and sets many of the defaults back to factory settings.
  1. Turn the product off.
  2. Press and hold down the checkmark (Select) button.
  3. Turn the product on.
  4. Continue to hold down the checkmark (Select) button until all three LEDs are illuminated. Release the checkmark (Select) button.
  5. Press the up arrow (navigation) button three times. The message COLD RESET will appear on the control panel display.
  6. Press the checkmark (Select) button once. The message STARTS will appear on the control panel display.
  7. When the cold reset is complete, the MFP will restart.
HP LaserJet 4200, 4250, 4300 and 4350 series information
Cold Reset
  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Turn the printer back on.
  3. Press and hold the checkmark (select) button during the memory test (e.g. 8MB ******).
  4. Hold the checkmark button down until all lights come on.
  5. Press the down navigation arrow until the message Cold Reset appears in the printer display.
  6. Press the checkmark button one more time.
  7. When the Cold Reset is complete the printer will display Ready .

Performing a cold reset
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. While pressing GO, turn the printer on. COLD RESET appears briefly on the display, and then INITIALIZING appears. After a few seconds, RESTORING FACTORY SETTINGS appears on the display, followed by OFFLINE. The cold reset is complete.
  3. Press GO to return the printer online. READY appears on the display.
