Memory and language
The HP LaserJet 6P printer comes with 2 MB of memory and can be expanded to 50 MB with the three available memory (SIMM) slots.
The HP LaserJet 6MP printer comes with 3 MB of memory and can be expanded to 35 MB with the two available memory (SIMM) slots.‘

Adobe’s (R) PostScript (R) Level 2 printer language Upgrade
The PostScript SIMM includes 1 MB of memory (standard in the HP LaserJet 6MP printer).
PostScript Memory SIMM Installation
Print a self-test by simultaneously pressing GO and JOB CANCEL.
After the self-test is printed, turn the printer off and disconnect the power cord.
Open the interface cable door and disconnect all interface cables.
Open the top cover by pressing the top cover release button on the right side of the printer.
Press the side panel release button (A) and slide the left side panel (B) forward until the alignment arrows line up.

Pull the panel away from the printer, exposing the available SIMM slots.

SIMM boards can be damaged by small amounts of static electricity. When handling the SIMM, wear an antistatic wrist strap or frequently touch the surface of the antistatic package, then bare metal on the printer.

Remove the SIMM from the antistatic package while avoiding touching the metal contacts.
Hold the SIMM so the notch on one end is on the bottom and the metal contacts face toward the slot.
Hold the SIMM at a 30-degree angle to the first available slot from the right. Push the edge of the board evenly and firmly into the slot. Rotate the SIMM to the right until the board snaps into the locking tabs.
Repeat Steps 6, 7, and 8 for each SIMM being installed.

Replace the side panel by lining up the alignment arrows and sliding the panel backwards until the release button latches into place. Close the top cover.
Reinstall the interface cable(s) and power cord. Turn on the printer.
Checking SIMM Installation
Follow this procedure to verify that the SIMM is installed correctly:
The printer should return to a ready state when it is turned on (Ready light on). If the Error (back) light comes on, the SIMM may have been installed incorrectly.
Print a self-test by simultaneously pressing GO and JOB CANCEL.
If you installed a memory SIMM, check the memory section on the self-test and compare it with the self-test printed before the SIMM installation. The new self-test should include the new memory.
If you installed a printer language/personality such as PostScript SIMM, check the Personalities section on the self-test. This area should list the new printer language/personality.
