HP Scanjet Scanners - Mac OS: Complete Uninstall of HP Image Zone version 8.4 under Mac OS 10.3 or Higher

ISSUE:
How do I perform a clean uninstall of HP Image Zone version 8.4 under Mac OS v10.3 or higher for the HP Scanjet Scanners?
SOLUTION:
To complete a clean uninstall of HP Image Zone version 8.4 under Mac OS v10.3 or higher, complete the following steps:
NOTE: Some files listed in the following steps may not be present. If any of the files are not present, please proceed to the next step, as this will not affect the uninstall process.
  1. Quit all applications currently running and disconnect the USB/power cable from the scanner.
  2. Remove the Hewlett-Packard folder from Applications :
    1. Open the hard drive volume (by default labeled Macintosh HD).
    2. Double-click Applications.
    3. Drag the Hewlett-Packard folder to the Trash .
  3. Remove the Application Support files:
    1. Open the hard drive volume (by default labeled Macintosh HD).
    2. Double-click Library .
    3. Double-click Application Support.
    4. Drag the Hewlett-Packard folder to the Trash .
  4. Remove the HP Help files:
    1. Open the hard drive volume (by default labeled Macintosh HD).
    2. Double-click Library .
    3. Double-click Documentation .
    4. Double-click Help .
    5. Drag the HP Photo and Imaging Help to the Trash .
  5. Remove the TWAIN Data Sources :
    1. Open the hard drive volume (by default labeled Macintosh HD).
    2. Double-click Library .
    3. Double-click Image Capture .
    4. Drag the TWAIN Data Sources folder to the Trash .
  6. Remove the HP Registry :
    1. Open the hard drive volume (by default labeled Macintosh HD).
    2. Double-click Library .
    3. Double-click Preferences .
    4. Drag HP Registry and Hewlett-Packard Preferences to the Trash .
  7. Remove the scanner extensions :
    1. Open the hard drive volume (by default labeled Macintosh HD).
    2. Double-click System .
    3. Double-click Library .
    4. Double-click Extensions .
    5. Try to locate the file hpPlugInInit.kext . If this file exists, drag it to the Trash . You may be prompted for your administrative password.
  8. Remove scanner preferences :
    1. Open the hard drive volume (by default labeled Macintosh HD).
    2. Double-click Users .
    3. Select your current logged in user (represented by the house icon).
    4. Double-click Library .
    5. Double-click Preferences .
    6. Locate and remove (drag to the Trash) the following preferences:
    • com.hp.hpimageedit.plist
    • com.hp.imagedropper.plist
    • com.hp.imagezone.plist
    • com.hp.photo.imageprint.plist
    • com.hp.photo.instantshare.plist
    • com.hp.softwareupdate.plist
    • com.irislink.mac.Readiris.plist
    • DPE 9 Prefs (folder)
    • Hewlett-Packard Preferences (folder)
    • HP Scan Pro Preferences
    • HP Scanjet Button Preferences
    • HP Scanjet Destinations
    • HP Scanjet Copy Preferences
    • hpEmailPrefs * Louvre (folder)
  9. Remove the HP Image Zone alias from the dock by clicking and dragging the icon off the dock. The icon will disappear.
  10. Click the apple in the top left corner of your screen and click Restart to restart the Macintosh.
  11. Once the Macintosh has restarted, empty the Trash if you are sure the Trash does not contain any items that you may wish to recover.
