NOTICE: The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the Release Date. This document is subject to change without notice.

Release Date: 2007-02-16

Last Updated: 2007-03-02

DESCRIPTION

Beginning 11 March 2007, Daylight Saving Time (DST) start and end dates for the United States will transition to comply with the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Under the new law, Daylight Saving Time will begin on the second Sunday of March and end the first Sunday of November, extending the timeframe by four weeks. Other countries that will also implement this change are Canada and Bermuda. Due to this DST change, operating system and application software updates may be required to ensure that the system clock on HP products is accurate.

This is not unique to HP products. All devices that automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time, and support operating systems or software relying on a local time zone that observes DST, will be affected by the 2007 DST change.

Businesses and individuals whose environments are sensitive to date and time transactions and utilize a local time zone may be impacted by changes in the Daylight Saving Time rules. Some applications perform date and time manipulation and may make automatic decisions based on Daylight Saving Time rules.

This document outlines the effects of the DST change on HP Instant Support Enterprise Edition (ISEE) and its related software components. Information on the US 2007 Daylight Saving Time Changes for other HP products not listed in this communication can be found at http://www.hp.com/go/dst

ISEE Impacts

HP has performed testing on HP Instant Support Enterprise Edition (ISEE) and has verified that there will be no impact to the normal processing of events logged by ISEE during the DST time changes. However, there are some cases where timestamps may be displayed incorrectly in several places in the User Interface.

HP recommends customers perform a system assessment to understand what updates may still need to be installed by March 11th to allow for the correct timestamp display.

In general, ISEE clients will support the DST change, but supporting software, such as Java, and the underlying Operating systems may need patching in order for the DST changes to be properly applied.

Recommended ISEE Client Software Updates

ISEE Client Software that is impacted by the DST Change:

ISEE Client Software requiring JAVA™ updates:

* Run the tzupdater tool to update JAVA™ immediately after installing the ISEE Client.

ISEE Client software that is not impacted by the DST change:

These clients will need to be restarted after JAVA™ has been updated.

Related Software Updates

The following ISEE related HP-supported software is affected by the DST rules and requires an update other than the updates described above:

Special Instructions for Advanced Configuration Customers

In order to ensure that your SPOP supports the latest DST changes, please contact your local HP account support team that will liaise with you on the OS and Java patches needed. However, HP strongly encourages you to upgrade to the latest SPOP version (A.04.00) to automatically benefit from the latest OS and Java software updates that will be made available to you through the ISEE Software Manager capability.
